“But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions–it is by grace you have been saved.” Ephesians 2:4-5
God could have left us in our sin, but He didn’t.
God could have left us in bondage to our sin, but He didn’t.
God could’ve chosen to ignore us as we were dull and apathetic towards Him, but He didn’t.
We were spiritually dead, stuck in our own muck and mire that we made. God could have chosen to leave us in that, and be justified in doing so, but He didn’t.
We were covered in the stench of our rebellion against Him, but He embraced us.
If I were God, and my people continued to rebel against me and never really gave me the time of day, and even hurled insults against me, disrespected me, and said with their mouth they would follow me yet turned right around and did the opposite, I would’ve wiped them all out. But thanks be to God that I am not God.
“Our God is immense in mercy and with an incredible love” (vs 4 MSG) “with unfathomable richness of His love and mercy focused on us” (vs 4 Voice) “that even though we were dead because of sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead.” (vs 5 NLT)
Do you feel like you have blown it so much that God has abandoned you. Do you feel like your life is so riddled with continual sin that God doesn’t love you anymore?
Rest easy, Friend, God saved you not because of your sin, but inspite of your sin and rebellion.
Spend some time confessing your sin and rebellion toward Him. Ask Him to forgive you. Receive His incredible love and mercy for you! Now go show that love and mercy to others.
