Praise

“Praise the LORD, O my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits–

who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” Psalms 103:1-5

You have much to celebrate. God has brought you from death to life. You are secure in Him. You have a home that will never burn down, can never be robbed, and will never deteriorate. You have the best Counselor in all the world walking with you through these times that you don’t have to pay a dime for. The Prince of Peace lives inside your heart.

It’s time to worship the Lord! Sing songs, write poems, dance and shout for He is worthy of all your praise!

How does this devotional sit with you right now? Are you turned off? Does it sound like just another sermon or another bible study or just another person too happy?

I confess, as I write this, my heart is struggling to worship. But I love these verses because David is struggling too and yet he is making a plea to His soul to wake up and praise the Lord. In another Psalm, the writer asks,

“Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.” Psalms 43:5

How is you soul doing? Has this pandemic caused you to lose heart? Have the financial pressures caused you to be depressed? Have you become numb?

It’s time to have a talk with your soul. Tell him to wake up and sing the Lord, give thanks to the Lord, and worship His holy name.

If we don’t worship the Lord, Jesus says, “even the very stones would cry out.”

In the words of my good friend, Kit, “Not even a pandemic can stop Christians from offering praise to the Lord!”
